Homework & Grades
At Brisas, students in Kindergarten through 5th grade are assigned homework. Marzano's research of effective instruction concludes that homework has an overall positive effect. Homework has been found to be more effective at the upper elementary and secondary levels, but we believe good habits form early so even our youngest of learners receive homework.Your child's homework should be structured in such a way to ensure completion, take a suitable amount of time (i.e. approximately 10 minutes per grade level per night), have a clear purpose, be directly related to learning goals, be designed as independent tasks, and should involve parents appropriately. At Brisas, we see homework as purposeful in that it helps students deepen their declarative knowledge, enhance their fluency and procedural knowledge, and helps to introduce them to new content.
